Saint John The Baptist Cathedral
Masterpiece of southern gothic
Saint John church had become too small, the construction of a new building was initiated by Sanç de Majorca in 1324. The collapse of the kingdom of Majorca stopped the works. When they resumed in the 15th century, the initial plan with three naves was discarded: the Majorcan Guillem Sagrera, one of the major architects of his time, designer of the Palma de Majorca cathedral, decided on a unique nave of vast dimensions. The works ended in 1509 and the church became a cathedral in 1602. The frontage was decorated with a porch in the 17th century and a wrought iron campanile in the 18th century.
