The Townhall

The consuls'house

Built in 1318 the primitive building which opened on a square through two semi circular arcades is at the base of the townhall lobby. Its painted ceilings of the 14th century rest on sculpted corbels of a fantastic bestiary.

The consuls'house was elevated and enlarged in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Méditerrannée by Aristide Maillol, is meditating in the centre of the patio. The frontage made of pebbles is typical of Catalan architecture, the wrought iron grids of its wide doors date from the 18th century. The three hands or bronze arms, on the frontage, symbolize the social organisation of the city during the Ancien Regime.
