War 1914 1918 Monument

 Major works by Gustave Violet.

Inaugurated in 1924, this impressive war memorial, works by Gustave Violet, pays a tribute to the Perpignan men dead for France in the 1914-1918 war. The central bas relief evokes grief and the figures in the lower part, represent the different types of the Roussillon society, in those days  : a shepherd, a fisherman, a market gardener. A great winged Victory stands in the background. Surrounded by grids and steles covered in mosaics, it included, on both sides, monumental wrought iron railings opening on to the gardens..
