Notre Dame La Réal Church
The Majorcan kings'parish
Founded at the beginning of the 14th century, near the royal palace,Notre Dame de la Real is one of the three new Majorcan parishes. This church with a unique nave, typical of southern gothic, welcomed in 1381 an Augustine priory whose abbot held the rank of bishop. During the Western Grand Schism, Benoit XIII, the last of the Avignon popes, of Aragonese origin, convened there a Council in 1408. After the revolutionary destructions, the church got its furniture back. Named « Sainte Marie Majeure de Perpignan » at the end of the19th century, its restoration was completed in 2012.
